call for submissions
Extended Deadline: March 1st, 2017
we are looking for stories from teen writers in Chicago!
Big Shoulders Books' current project, a collection of teens' reflections on relationships, is a chance for teens to get their work professionally published. We want to hear true stories about relationships and dating. What does it mean to be in love? How do you know the relationship you are in is healthy or not? What do you want out of a relationship?
We are looking for descriptive, detailed creative nonfiction pieces for this project. That means each story will be true, as in all the events really happened, and all the people in them are real. Of course, submitters can change names and identifying details to protect peoples’ privacy. We accept poems, essays, and graphic art as well, though we’re mostly looking for writing.
We imagine most pieces will be somewhere between 3-10 pages long, but we have no strict page limit. Submitters can write as much or as little as they want, revise as much or as little as they like, proofread, and send it to us. If a piece is selected, it can be published anonymously. Any writers who need some guidance and information can check out some writing prompts here!
If you are a Chicago teen and would like to submit, check out this official call for submissions for further details, and go over this informational letter and waiver with your parent or guardian. And please share this page and the attached documents with the writers you know.
Send your submissions and questions to Dr. Michele Morano at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to your stories!
